(ICI) ( of Addison, Texas, announced today that its MEC ("Managed Electronic Commerce") e-commerce management applications suite has been officially certified to utilize VirtualNet, the leading Internet commerce payment gateway from Vital Processing Services® (Vital®). This means that e-commerce sites using MEC automatically comply with Vital's standards for connection into its new VirtualNet for real-time transaction processing and payments over the Internet. The announcement was made here at the American Bankers Association's "Future Payments Conference." Vital Processing Services of Tempe, Arizona is a world's recognized leader in technology-based commerce-enabling services.

Certification by Vital is a significant achievement for MEC since it means that MEC-powered sites are immediately set up for full e-commerce service. Credit and debit card transactions handled through MEC-powered sites will enjoy some of the fastest round-trip transaction request and authorization times available, usually within 2-5 seconds.

MEC is ICI's second-generation e-commerce product that provides an end-to-end e-commerce transaction management system for electronic commerce. The total MEC product line includes Internet storefront, "brick & mortar" point-of-sale, back office management, corporate information systems and Web site development service modules. The links between the MEC products, especially the Internet storefront, POS and Web site development, will be integrated directly into VirtualNet as a result of the certification. VirtualNet is the electronic commerce payment gateway service, linking the Internet and Vital's point-of-sale processing network. The open platform enables multiple types of electronic commerce transactions to take place directly via VirtualNet, eliminating the need for third party gateways. VirtualNet accepts Internet-based transactions including SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), IP (Internet Protocol) and SET (Secure Electronic Transaction) for payment processing over the Internet. ICI is certified for Internet Protocol processing of transactions. Joe Sexton, ICI's Executive Vice President of Sales, reflected the company's excitement about the certification news, "This is a significant and strategic milestone on our road to making the e-commerce process totally failure-free. We expect MEC to be the premier e-commerce solution for managing e-commerce transaction on an end-to-end basis. Now, we're able to offer our customers the best and most reliable payment processing system through our MEC product. We've aligned with the leading Internet payment processor to deliver the same level of product quality and service that's built into the rest of the MEC architecture. VirtualNet is a vitally important element in our plans to make MEC the product model for end-to-end transaction management systems."

MEC's certification focused on Internet commerce capabilities, electronic authorizations (for VISA, MasterCard, Discover/Novus, Diners Club and American Express credit cards), electronic settlements, single transaction authorizations and single batch mode for data capture.

"Today, merchants are looking for full, turn-key Internet commerce solutions for doing business on the Internet. We are pleased provide the high-speed connection between ICI and Vital's VirtualNet payment gateway, helping to extend ICI's robust e-commerce offering," said Donna Embry, senior vice president of Vital.
